Lifeblood
Stardate 65964
Date: Dec 19, 2388

Following the repair of the ship after the Ellusian incident, the Crudaigh docks at a nearby starbase to replenish supplies and take on some new crew members. Starbases being the place for gossip as they often are, the command team becomes aware of rumours of a mineral compound, plentiful in a nearby nebula, which has almost legendary properties as a clean, ultra-efficient energy source. A bit of research seems to suggest that the material does really exist, and the decision is made to go off and look for it.

The Crudaigh eagerly goes to investigate, but when they reach the mining facility at the nebula, they are greeted not only with open arms and friendly faces, but also sad news of accidents and unfortunate tradegies. Is everything really as it seems, or is it all too good to be true? Join us to find out!

...more information on the nebula will be forthcoming when we get there. ;)

We are docked at the Starbase now! Time to start "hearing" some gossip. Feel free to venture to the Starbase, meet some of the people stationed there, hear the gossip, etc.

People are excited about this new energy source. It seems better in every way possible than what Starfleet is currently using, hence the reason that a new mining facility has been set up by many of the local peoples near the nebula to gather this mineral discovery and begin harnessing its powers.

After the brief investigation by the command team that Lia referred to above to verify that these "rumors" are in fact true, the Crudaigh will venture to the mining station. Everyone is very friendly there.

Once there, our crew, especially the science and engineering departments will become very active in doing some initial testing of the nebula. They will find the results to be just as they had heard about....the mineral is like a magical energy source that will totally revolutionize Starfleet and all space travel.

Of course, the mining facility has been suffering from some minor and more severe problems and accidents. Is the facility cursed? What is causing the catastrophes and even deaths among those people who work and run the machines? The Crudaigh sends some of its crew onto the mining station to assist when yet another explosion or accident occurs, resulting in at least one death of a miner.

All the while, the process to extract the mineral continues. The crew receives some samples and begins testing the substance of the mineral, its properties and whether or not it will actually run in the ships engines.

At the same time, those onboard the ship who have any kind of empathic abilities will begin to pick up on moments of pain, anguish, distress, fear, unhappiness. After some time to work through what is causing this, they will determine that its not onboard the ship...

When all the pieces fall into place...the Crudaigh crew will learn that the nebula is not at all what it seems, but rather it is composed of some type of very primitive life form. The mineral that is being extracted is killing the organism. In response, it is sending out some kind of signal/chemical/reaction onto the mining facility which is causing the accidents/problems. When the crew learns what is really at stake what will they decide?

Is it right to take from a non-sentient life form in order to better oneself? Is it any different than killing a plant to create a meal or for decoration? The decision rests in the hands of all those onboard the Crudaigh and at the mining facility....what happens each step of the way is up to us!!

Dive in and enjoy the plot!! It should be an exciting and thought-provoking one to say the least.
